Women's Health Q&A

What is women’s health?

Women’s health is an internal medicine subspecialty that diagnoses and treats sex-specific health problems in people with female reproductive organs.

Even though men and women experience many similar health problems, women’s unique reproductive systems make some conditions more likely than others. Investing in women’s health care at Twin Ports Telemedicine can help you age gracefully and reduce the risk of conditions like breast and cervical cancers and menopause symptoms.

Which services does women’s health offer?

At Twin Ports Telemedicine, Nikki provides various women’s health services with telehealth, including:

Medical recommendations (referrals)

All women are encouraged to undergo sex-specific preventative screenings, like Pap smears and mammograms (breast X-rays). Since Twin Ports Telemedicine is a telehealth practice, Nikki refers patients to nearby labs and clinics for these screenings. After she receives your test results, Nikki will explain them to you and draw up a personalized treatment plan.

Primary care

Primary care provides all your basic medical needs, including acute care, chronic disease management, and immunizations. Whenever possible, Nikki provides these services online but, when necessary, refers you to a nearby clinic or lab for in-person care.

Lab testing

Lab tests like bloodwork and urinalysis diagnose typical women’s health problems like urinary tract infections (UTIs) and sexually transmitted diseases (STDs). Because these tests can’t be conducted through telehealth, Nikki refers patients to nearby clinics for lab testing.

Hormone replacement therapy (HRT)

Many menopausal women experience uncomfortable symptoms like hot flashes, mood swings, and dry skin. Hormone replacement therapy (HRT) uses synthetic (artificial) hormones to restore your body to balance and help you feel your best.

During HRT, Nikki monitors your symptoms through regular telehealth checkups. She adjusts your hormone dosage when needed to ensure positive results.

Medically supervised weight loss

Maintaining your ideal weight gets more challenging with age. Medically supervised weight loss helps you stay on track with a combination of nutrition counseling, exercise guidance, and prescription medication. It’s a safe, effective way to shed pounds and keep them off.

How often should I schedule a women’s health visit?

Nikki encourages all women to schedule a women’s health visit at Twin Ports Telemedicine at least once a year. After becoming a practice member, you also receive a single home visit from Nikki. This home visit presents an opportunity to meet Nikki face to face and strengthen your client-provider relationship.
